Camping Fun and Excitement
Please excuse any and all typos or weird shit in this one. I have an injured finger, sore body and strept throat (AGAIN!). Still, I had a fun weekend.
We had planned on leaving early on Thurs. HA HA HA HA!!! We got going around 9:30ish and set up in the dark. Nice thing about getting there a night before the weekenders, is a holy shit beautiful starry night! The Earth is passing through a meteor shower, so we saw several shooting stars and could distinctly see the Milky Way. I used to be such an astronomy buff, I need to start up again... just there!
Janice, Doug, Andy and Shelby got there around 11 and we let kids play a bit while we set up and looked up. FINALLY got the kids to go to sleep (after Emily fell for the first time). Janice had brought star charts with her, so we hung out a wee bit before deciding to turn in.
Cheryl and Family (Barth, Savannah, Jessie and Casey) got in around 1:30am. They worked on setting up the popup and I went back to the hell bed.
I love to camp. I think it's a great experience... and once upon a time, I enjoyed sleeping on the ground. Not so much anymore. I had 2 roots I had to manuever between and the difficulty of that kept me up most of the night. The next 2 nights, we used these pads that Cheryl had on the roof of her van to keep it safe from the bicycles. That smoothed the surface, but it was still hard, and I think my ass is a bit on the bruised side of things. My body hurts. It's a sign that age is becoming a factor.
Of the hurts... my kids got hurt every half an hour or so. They inherited my grace. Mostly, they just fell and skinned bits of themselves. No biggie, just a lot of tears. Casey got stung 7 or 8 times by a bumblebee... that was the worst for his mommy. Cheryl was ready to take a flying leap in the lake with him. Janice was sick with the virus her kids had right before coming out. Not too sick, but a bit miserable. And when my van battery died for the second time, Jason accidently slammed the tip of my right ring finger in the car door.
That one hurt. I rarely cry in pain... it really fucking hurt. And Jason felt worse than I did about it. I ended up sitting between the cars and crying for a bit. Hoping it wasn't too injured. I may not play the piano as often as I'd like... but I had a slight panic that it was hurt that bad. Since it hit the tip and my van has weee give in the door frame, I think that once healed the worse will be my nail coming off in spurts. That'll take about 6 months to completely grow out.
It was definately a great first experience camping with my family. We're looking into doing it again in October.
And that's the really short version... I've had this saved as a draft and can't remember what else I was going to do with it. Oh well.
